Churches in Woolpit Parish

Woolpit, The Blessed Virgin Mary

The Street Woolpit Bury St Edmunds
01359 242244

St. Mary's Church, Woolpit, is one of the most beautiful churches of Suffolk - a county of beautiful churches. Originally on the pilgrimage route to the shrine of St. Edmund, grateful pilgrims left gifts following miracles which occurred at a shrine to Our Lady, attached to the church. This money was used to provide St. Mary's with a particularly fine angel ceiling and wonderfully carved pews with animal poppy heads. There are many lovely features in the church which make it worth exploring in depth.

It is also a very friendly church with a regular pattern of worship, both on Sundays and through the week. It is wheelchair accessible, has a good hearing loop and a disabled accessible toilet.
